A Love Affair

This award winning romantic comedy is brimming with hilarious as well as moving moments captured from a 38 year marriage. As Jimmy (Paul Lutvak) and Alice Diamond (Lee Burnley) clear out the attic of their Malibu home because a turn of finances is forcing them to move into a cramped condo, they find themselves reliving the flawed masterpiece that is their marriage. Two pairs of actors play the Diamonds, one young (Ellen Swanson, Spencer Lutvak) and one mature. Throughout, they observe and comment on each other. In one delightful scene, the four confront each other to negotiate the transition into middle age. A Love Affair is both a timeless and a timely play, because its story is about financial reverses and how they can either weaken or reinforce relationships, depending on how the difficult times are handled. It's a moving, identifiable story that rings true, while offering a multiplicity of laughs.

Five Women Wearing the Same Dress

During an ostentatious 1980s wedding reception at a Knoxville, Tennessee estate, five reluctant identically clad bridesmaids escape to an upstairs bedroom, each with her own reason to avoid the reception. They are Frances (Ellen Swanson), a painfully sweet but sheltered fundamentalist; Mindy (Zane Julia), the cheerful wise-cracking lesbian sister of the groom; Georgeanne (Chantal Hart), whose heartbreak over her own failed marriage triggers outrageous behavior; Meredith (Toni Watterson), the bride's younger sister, whose precocious rebelliousness masks a dark secret; and Trisha (Jade Elle), a jaded beauty whose diehard cynicism about men is called into question when she meets Tripp (Andrew Rothkin), a charming bad boy usher to whom there is more than meets the eye. As the afternoon wears on, these five very different women joyously discover a common bond in this wickedly funny, irreverent and touching celebration of the women's spirit.
